Peerless Boiler Serial Number Lookup: A Guide to Decoding Your Boiler's Age

Peerless boilers provide heat for a home or other building by heating certain substances, such as oil or water. If you need to know how old your boiler is, or you need to find a specific part or repair instructions, you can do so by locating the boiler's serial number. Using the serial number, you can determine specifics about the boiler's model and manufacturing date.

Peerless Boiler Serial Number Lookup

Record your boiler's serial number. To determine the age of your boiler, look at the numbers after the serial number's dash. If the number ends in a four-digit code, then the boiler was made before the year 2000 with the last two numbers of the code indicating the exact year the boiler was made. If the number ends in a six-digit code, the boiler was made after the year 2000 and the last three to four numbers indicate the month and year the boiler was made.

On older models, you can determine the age of your unit by decoding the water heater serial number. Some manufacturers, including Rheem, made it easy by incorporating the month and year built into the first 4 digits of the serial number. For instance, the picture below shows that this Rheem water heater was manufactured in December of 1991 (1291). Other manufacturers use different formats, but in a similar fashion.

The Bradford White rating plate is the most difficult to decode. To find the age of a Bradford White tank, you have to understand their coding. The year of manufacture is noted by the first letter of the serial number, the month is the second letter. The decoding is based on the following format:Year Decoder: G = 1990; H = 1991; J = 1992; K = 1993; L= 1994; M= 1995; N= 1996; P= 1997; S= 1998; T= 1999; W= 2000; X= 2001; Y= 2002; Z=2003; A= 2004; B=2005; C=2006; D=2007Month Decoder: A= JAN; B=FEB; C=MAR; D= APR; E=MAY; F= JUNE; G=JULY; H= AUG; J= SEPT; K=OCT; L= NOV; M= DEC.

Edit, Added as an afterthought:. See if you can find the serial number on the machine. It is usually stamped into the casting to the right of the presser foot bar, on top of the head. Its not of much importance, but does go some insight into how early or late of a machine it might be. Around my part of the country, the numbers seem to range from 3000-7000. Just recently I acquired #149. That is very early, and did not come from around here. I got it for the mere fact that it is such an early number.

So, the serial number is #4843. She came with two packs of original needles! One part is cracked, but I have an OK work around (it's the part labeled #14 if you have the head diagram) this cracked part leads me to ask WHY is that part 2 pieces instead of one piece? Why should it be able to pivot upwards? isn't it just for lifting the presser foot?

There is so little information about the early years of the company, and as far as I know, no surviving records of machine serial numbers in reference to the year of manufacture. Your best bet would be if someone happens to have original documentation for a machine, and honestly, I would love to hear about that as well. A friend and I were just talking the other day about how interesting it would be to know the history of our machines: date of manufacture, original purchaser, etc.

Arco-aire: (Snyder General): A letter followed by a 9-digit number. The second and third letter represent the year, the fourth and fifth numbers represent the week. There may be a date stamp to the right of the serial number.

Comfortmaker (International Comfort): A letter followed by a 9-digit number. The second and third letter represent the year, the fourth and fifth numbers represent the week. There may be a date stamp to the right of the serial number.

Day-Night: (Prior to BDP in 1979) Age coded into the serial number. First letter is the month followed by the second letter which is the year. A = 1970, B = 1971, Etc. Example: AAxxxxxx = January 1970, BExxxxxx = May 1971.

Ducane: uses two different formats on serial numbers. All of our serial numbers are ten characters. The most common format is all ten characters are numeric. In this format the last 4 numbers indicate the year and the week of the year. An example is your serial number 4140720320 where the 03 is 2003 and the 20 is the 20th week of the year (2002). The more recent format is ten character and the format is the first 4 characters are numeric, the fifth character is alpha, and the last 5 characters are numeric. The year code is determined from the 3rd and 4th characters that would be the last 2 digits of the calendar year (93=1993 and 06=2006). The fifth character which is alpha represents the month with A=January and M=December and but we do not use the letter I. This is an example of second serial number format, 4603M12345, the 03 is 2003 and the M is December.

Fedders: Through 1977, the last two letters of the serial number show the month/year of manufacture, beginning with September 1964. Example: xxxxAA = Sept 66, xxxxBC = Oct 68.(I is not used)

General Electric: Age is the last 3 digits of the serial number. First digit being the year and the second and third digits being the month. Example xxxxx241 = 41st week of 1982, 92, 02 etc., xxxxx533 = 33rd week of 1985, 95, 05 etc..

Goodman: First two digits of the serial number are the year. Second two are the month.
